Richard's degree is in Music, and he also obtained a PGCE in secondary music education before working as a secondary school music teacher. He finally left the profession when the immense weight of administration removed all the joy from the job — a decision that proved to be a great one. Now he gets to indulge his passion for teaching without all the red tape.

Richard is passionate about sharing the news that most people who think they are tone-deaf are not. So strongly did he feel about it that he spent three years writing about it and developing a system to show how it can be done.
Now he gives talks and workshops on how the vast majority of people can be shown how to sing, no matter how bad they think their voice is. He often peppers these talks with five-minute "masterclasses", where someone demonstrates how bad they are at singing, and he shows them how to correct it.
He is as comfortable speaking in front of a thousand people as he is in front of a few friends. He has run workshops and talks at corporate events, and at festivals including Wilderness, Chickenstock, ALSO Festival, Wild Meadows, and End of the Road.
